Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called at approximately 11:40 am to a fire in a wooded scrubland area near the M2 motorway, between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and Junction 6 (Faversham), earlier today.
On arrival fire crews were faced with a well developed fire in around 50 tonnes of tree scrubland that was about 30 metres from the coastbound carriageway. Firefighters used hose reel jets to contain the fire to stop it spreading to nearby trees. A speed restriction was imposed on the motorway, as smoke was blowing across the carriageway.
Crews remained at the scene damping down before responsibility was handed over to the landowner.
