New Closure Dates For Bridge Announced

Network Rail have announced details of a further closure of the Kingsferry Bridge.

The 1950s bridge, which connects the Isle of Sheppey with mainland Kent over the Swale, will be closed to pedestrians, cyclists, rail, road and maritime traffic from 22:00 hrs on Thursday 24th October with an estimated completion by 05:00 hrs on Sunday 3rd November.

Second Day Of Rush Hour Gridlock In Town

It was yet another afternoon / early evening of "gridlock" in Sittingbourne again today (Tuesday 2nd July) due to the continuing closure of the Kingsferry Bridge.

The bridge remains closed, for essential maintenance work by Network Rail, until 5am on Sunday (7th July). This will also be the case across the weekend of Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July and then another full week's closure from Saturday 20th July until Saturday 27th July.

Kingsferry Bridge Closures Commence

The first of the Kingsferry Bridge closures commenced at 10pm last night (Friday 7th June) and will continue until 5am on Monday (10th June).

Network Rail will be providing a bus replacement for service between Sittingbourne and Sheerness on Sea (calling at all stations except 'Swale') throughout all the closures to enable repais to the road/rail bridge between the Isle of Sheppey and the mainland (here in Sittingbourne). 

A Male Body Found In The Swale

A male body has been found in the Swale after a closure of the northbound carriageway of the A249 Sheppey Crossing.
