Injured Man Jailed For Spitting At 999 Crew

An injured man who repeatedly spat at ambulance staff who were trying to help him has been jailed for six months.

William Gregory, 36, had been drinking alcohol when he was found collapsed on a grass verge next to a row of houses in Newbridge Avenue, Sittingbourne, on Monday 5th September. He also appeared to have removed a plaster cast from his foot.

Members of the public were concerned for his welfare and dialled 999, resulting in Kent Police officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service clinicians attending the scene.

Bungalow Fire Tackled In Iwade

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to Sheppey Way in Iwade to reports of a bungalow fire at around 11pm last night (Thursday 1st September).

Four fire engines attended and crews tackled a fire in the roof space using hose reel jets and main jets.

KFRS’ volunteer response team also attended to provide support the occupants and residents in neighbouring properties affected by the incident. 

There were no reported casualties and the cause is not yet known.

Man Charged With Sittingbourne Stabbing

A suspect has been charged and remanded in custody following a knife assault in Sittingbourne.

Kent Police were called at 9.55pm on last Thursday (18th August), to a report a man had suffered an injury consistent with a stab wound. The victim, aged in his 50s, is alleged to have been assaulted by someone known to him during a disturbance inside a residential address in Romney Court. He was taken to a London hospital and has now been discharged.

M2 Slip Road Closure Announced

National Highways South East have announced that soon they will be starting work on the new slip roads, and to do this safely they will be closing the eastbound (coastbound) entry and exit slips between the M2 and A249 from Monday 12th September 2022 until Friday 13rd January 2023

This means that there will be no access to the Stockbury roundabout from the M2 eastbound or the ability to join the M2 eastbound from the Stockbury roundabout at junction 5 during the closure.

Officers investigating a serious assault in Sittingbourne have arrested a man and are appealing for witnesses.

A day of enforcement action to combat the incorrect and fraudulent use of Blue Badges has been carried out in Swale.

Kent County Council’s Counter Fraud team joined Swale Borough Council’s Parking team as they visited several streets and car parks last Thursday (4th August) to check that the badges were being used by the authorised person and in the correct way.

Cocaine And Heroin Seized During Search Warrant

A suspected Sittingbourne drug dealer has appeared at court following the seizure of heroin and cocaine.

Last Thursday (4th August) Kent Police executed a search warrant issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address in Kemsley.

During the search of the premises, 48 deals of cocaine, 19 wraps of heroin, a quantity of herbal cannabis, three sets of electronic scales and three mobile phones were seized.

The constables also seized four knives and a man was arrested and taken into custody.

CCTV Image Released Following Assault

A CCTV image has been released by police as part of an investigation into an assault in Sittingbourne earlier this month.

Officers would like to talk to the man in the image, or anyone who recognises him, in connection with the assault which was reported to have happened on Saturday 2nd July at around 11:00pm inside a pub in West Street.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was inside The Vineyard Pub when he was reported to have been punched in the face by a man not known to him, causing him facial injuries.

A dedicated Scout leader has pulled together a team of electricity workers for a makeover at a Sittingbourne Scout campsite.

UK Power Networks’ engineer, Paul Austin, led improvements to Bexon Lane Scout Campsite with a team of power workers, after raising £800 from a sponsored walk with colleagues to buy equipment for the challenge.
