Town Gridlocked Again After Two M2 Accidents

Sittingbourne has been gridlocked again this morning, following two accidents on the M2 motorway earlier.

The first accident happened just after 7:45am coastbound between Junctions 5 (Sittingbourne) and 6 (Faversham) and involved four vehicles, whilst the second, involving two cars, was on the same section of the motorway but on the Londonbound carriageway at 7:50am.

A Kent Police spokesperson has confirmed that there were no serious injuries involved but traffic remains very busy in and out of Sittingbourne.

MP Welcomes News Of Post Office Re-Opening

Gordon Henderson, Member of Parliament for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, has welcomed the news that post office services are finally being restored in Bredgar.

The village Post Office was closed in February following a burglary and had been set to re-open on Saturday (23rd May) but encountered some broadband connection problems. These have now been resolved and the Post Office will be re-opening from 9.15am tomorrow (Wednesday 27th May).

Record Number Take Part In 10K Road Race

There were a record number of participants and spectators at this year's Rotary Club Of Sittingbourne Invicta's 10K Road Race yesterday (Sunday 17th May).

The 106.9 SFM Roadshow were entertaining the crowds and broadcasting Live On Air between 10am - 1pm.

Boy Admits To Two Sittingbourne Robberies

A 17-year-old, who assaulted two teenage boys and stole their mobile phones in the space of five minutes, has pleaded guilty to robbery.

At about 8.15am on Thursday 7th May, a 13-year-old boy was walking to school along St John's Avenue in Sittingbourne when he was approached by two older boys. They asked him the time and after taking out his iPhone 5 to help them out, the victim was held in a headlock and his mobile phone taken.

Search Underway For Missing Sittingbourne Man

Kent Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of a Sittingbourne man who has been reported as missing.

59-year-old Alan Bailey (pictured above) was last seen in the shopping precinct in Rainham on Tuesday afternoon (5th May) when he was wearing a black beanie hat, a jumper and light brown shoes.

He is described as white with grey hair and a full beard. Mr Bailey is a smoker and may have been smoking roll-up cigarettes.

Series Of Local Burglary Arrests Made By Police

Officers investigating burglaries and shopliftings in the Sittingbourne area have made a series of arrests over the last few days.

Police executed warrants and carried out proactive searches yesterday (Tuesday 7th April) following a number of reports of thefts from shops across the borough. The shopliftings relate to three reports at Co-op in Murston, one at Tesco in Canterbury Road, Sittingbourne and one at the Wilkinson store on the High Street in Sittingbourne.

E-Fit Issued Following Sittingbourne Sexual Assault

Detectives investigating a reported sexual assault in Sittingbourne have issued an e-fit image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

Police received reports that at about 2.15pm on Monday 16th March that a woman was putting her rubbish out in Onyx Drive was approached by a man. The victim had walked along a footpath to a nearby bin store. When she had finished in the store, she turned to leave when she was met by a man standing in the doorway.

New Carnival Court For 2015 Selected

The selection of the new Sittingbourne Carnival Court for 2015 took place on Saturday (21st March) evening at the Woodcoombe Sports and Social Club on Church Road in Murston.

The Deputy Mayor of Swale, Cllr. Anita Walker and members from 11 other carnival associations from around Kent made up the audience of around 150 people.  

The judges were Cllr Mike Whiting, Claire Fosbeary (Asda's Community Life Champion and former Miss Sittingbourne 1990) and Leanne Martin (Miss Sittingbourne 2008, Miss Kent 2011). The  adjudicator was Cllr Sue Gent.
